What We Value

"For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. "
- jesus, reported in matthew's gospel chapter 6:21

Core Values

The following are the core values of
First United Methodist Church in Worthington,  Minnesota.
They are based on the foundational truths taught in the Bible.
All of our teaching and ministry is rooted in
and flows out of these biblical doctrines.

Core Value #1

We believe lost people matter to God, and therefore,
they matter to the church.
We actively participate in ministries that reach out to the least, the lost, the last, the lonely and the left out.
We encourage participation in The Banquet, Operation Christmas Basket, Food Shelf, Love INC, and other local missions.

Core Value #2

We believe loving relationships should permeate every aspect of church life. We strive to love each member of our one church, providing avenues for congregational care, fellowship activities, seasonal events, prayer chain, bereavement support, Secret Saints, United Methodist Women, and United Methodist Men.

Core Value #3

We believe being Bible-centered in both preaching and teaching. We focus this core value in the areas of worship, educational opportunities for all ages, special seasonal events, youth ministries,
and small group studies.

Core Value #4

We believe that being true to the Word of God means personally growing spiritually in God’s Word. We accomplish this through small group study, daily Bible reading, devotional materials, Right Now Library and other ongoing Bible studies for all ages.

Core Value #5

We believe as disciples of Jesus Christ we need to be willing to adapt and change according to God’s purpose. We know that even these core values need to be fluid, changing as we continue to change and grow in Christ.

Core Value #6

We believe the church needs to leave the building and be present in the community. In all that we do, our work, our community, our school, our families, and our daily life, we strive to be God’s hands and feet to the community.

Core Value #7

We believe our one church should be led by people who have God-given leadership gifts, be it clergy, staff or laity. We support continuing education for our clergy, staff, and laity.  We look for ways to increase our understanding of our own spiritual gifts.
