Core Beliefs

The following are the core beliefs of
First United Methodist Church in Worthington, Minnesota.
They are based on the foundational truths taught in the Bible.
All of our teaching and ministry is rooted in
and flows out of these biblical doctrines.

God

We believe in God, who is One, revealed in three distinct persons.

Jesus

We believe in Jesus Christ, who while divine became human, and whose life, death and resurrection demonstrate God’s redeeming love.

Holy Spirit

We believe in the Holy Spirit, God’s present activity in our midst.
When we sense God’s leading, God’s challenge, or God’s support or comfort, it’s the Holy Spirit at work.

humaNS

We believe that human beings were created in the image of God,
and like God have the capacity to love and care,
to communicate and to create.

THE CHURCH

We believe the church needs to leave the building and be present in the community. In all that we do, our work, our community, our school, our families, and our daily life,
we strive to be God’s hands and feet to the community.

THE BIBLE

We believe in the Bible, God’s Holy Word and the primary authority for our faith and practice.

gOD'S KINGDOM

We believe in God’s Reign, the Kingdom –
both a present reality and a future hope.

SALVATION

We believe in the gift of salvation
given in grace for every single person.

THE SACAMENT OF HOLY COMMUNION

We believe in the sacrament of Holy Communion, as a reminder of God’s amazing love toward us, a sacrament that is open to all people, young and old alike.

THE SACRAMENT OF HOLY BAPTISM

We believe in the sacrament of Baptism, whether infant or believer’s baptism, as the means of entering into the Church.
